Landfill Hunter

It's back!  Yesterday I happened into a conference about microplastics.  It really brought back some memories, but also was really irritating to hear the same discourse that was already boring 10 years ago.  but I digress.

Many moons ago, I spent a significant amount of time building a crowdsourcing application to identify landfill locations.  That work resulted in publication.  But it never felt very satifisying as the quality of the work wasnt what I wanted.  So now I'm setting out to get the work across the finishline.

Landfill Hunter is an webapp that allows user the opportunity to draw polygons over landfills visible in Google Earth maps.  The polygons ar stored and used for analysis.

While this work is somewhat redundent, I hope to take this information and build a NN model to identify landfills from satellite imagery.  And then explore their heat signatures etc..  That was always the dream, just never had the techinical capacity to get see it to completion.
